Initial Brainstorm Get-together
Last night marked the launch of our efforts to change things for the better in the skate scene here in Manchester.
We met at the Projekts shop and had a great debate and chat about how things currently are (bad) and how we want things to be (good!). Full notes of our chat will be posted here soon.
Folks who came were: John, Lucy, Charles, Woody, Vic, Harry, Danny, Ollie, Me (Ben G), Ben D and Hiu.
Although nothing much was decided for definate, we thought it would be best to lobby as a Collective and that our aims should be to get more and better facilities, to demand that the Council consult with us skaters with every park they build, and to get rid of the by-law banning skating in the City Center.
According to Wikipedia: A collective is a group of people who share or are motivated by at least one common issue or interest, or work together on a specific project(s) to achieve a common objective. Collectives are also characterised by attempts to share and exercise political and social power and to make decisions on a consensus-driven and egalitarian basis. Collectives differ from cooperatives in that they are not necessarily focused upon an economic benefit or saving (but can be that as well).
So let’s all get stuck in - innovate, pioneer, experiment, discover, research - this won’t work otherwise!
