The Manchester Evening News newspaper today has an article on the Big Sesh at the PumpCage which happened on Saturday. It is a really positive piece with some great quotes about the need for the extension to the skate park and about how great skateboarding is - nice one author Mike Keegan! Here are some snippets:
The gathering at the Manchester Skatepark was designed to show authorities how much support there is for an extension that would allow hundreds more enthusiasts to hone their tricks and skills.
“It’s a hugely popular sport in Manchester and our park is one of the best in the country. We attract visitors from all over Britain and if we want to accommodate everyone, we have to expand.”
“It’s a fantastic asset to the city and provides a service to children I think would be lost to society without it. The park needs extending so more people can take advantage of it.”
“Manchester is the skating capital of the north, but although this is a great park, it’s just not big enough - and hopefully today’s events will show that,”
Read it on the M.E.N. website here and leave comments on the article here - unfortunately there have been some negative comments and criticisms, so lets show them how much the extension plan is supported.
Remember to get down to the PumpCage under the Mancunian Way on Saturday at 12pm to support plans to get the park extension built. The effort is being led by Dan Mukka, Sean Lomax, Adam Ahmed, Tom Mcgiveron, Ben Sharratt and Pete Smithson (all under 18) with the help of John Haines and VictorX from Projekts MCR. See their MySpace page here.
SkateMCR, Manchester’s new skate collective, presents in association with Cast, TWO, NOTE, and Projekts MCR:

Critical Mass is a bunch of people who ride their bikes around town on the last friday of every month. They do it for various reasons from celebrating the bicycle to protesting against the lack of cycle facilities on Manchesters roads.
Even though they are mostly cyclists, they welcome skaters to come along too (see their info page)! So to skate around the City Centre as a protest against the byelaws, join in and meet up at the Central Library at 6pm on Feb 23rd.
Critical Mass happens every month, so check the calendar on this website for the next one.
