The protest we planned for Go Skateboarding Day at URBIS was unfortunately rained off, but it didn’t stop plenty of Skaters getting out to skate. Most seemed to be found at the Pump Cage during the afternoon where I recorded some footage with my mobile phone!
Central Skatepark then hosted the premiere of the new Element Skateboards video - “This Is My Element” - which was amazing.

More information has surfaced for Go Skateboarding Day on 21st June 2007 - just over 24 hours away! So here’s what’s happening on Thursday:
Projekts
To celebrate Go Skateboarding Day, Projekts are letting you skate for free at the Pump Cage from 3 - 8pm on Thursday! They are also offering 20% off hardware at their shop too.
Central Skatepark
Central are hosting the premiere of the new Element Skateboards video - This Is My Element - at 8pm on Thursday. In honour of Go Skateboarding Day, they are also offering entry to their park for only £5 for the whole day - including the premiere!
SkateMCR
We have suggested that everybody gets together at URBIS from 5pm to have a big skate and protest. Where you go from URBIS is up to you!
It looks like Go Skateboarding Day is gonna be great wherever you go in Manchester!
A final word about what Go Skateboarding Day is all about from the official website:
On June 21 skateboarders around the globe will celebrate the pure exhilaration, creativity, and spirit of one of the most influential activities in the world by blowing off all other obligations to go skateboarding!
Skateboarders everywhere will hold fundraisers, contests, protests, demo’s, they’ll skate across cities, gather in skateparks, stream into their local skate shop and some will even revel in the solitary act of skateboarding alone, all bringing together the skateboarding community in the grind heard around the world.
New plans have emerged for Go Skateboarding Day on 21st June, next Thursday.
Central Skatepark are hosting the Northern premiere of “This is my Element” - the new Element Skateboards video - at 8pm on Go Skateboarding Day. In honour of the day, they are charging £5 entry for the whole day, including the premiere in the evening.
So, plans are to still meet at URBIS at 5pm and have a skate in protest of the byelaws and just to have fun. Then people who want to go see the Element premiere can go up to Central Skatpark before 8pm, and those who don’t want to go to the premiere can do what they want - as long as they skate!
Go Skateboarding Day is fast approaching and we wanna organise something for skaters to do together. We wanna get everyone to skate the streets in protest that they legally can’t, and as a celebration of skatboarding in Manchester!
So, current plans are for everyone to meet at 5pm at URBIS, we’ll skate there for a bit then skate down Deansgate to Castlefield, then move on to the Gasworks. It is pretty similar to the street ASBO cometition arranged by NOTE, exept there is no competition and no cash prizes, just the joy of skateboarding with each other - which is what the day is all about anyway!
It may be the last chance to skate URBIS for the summer before they cover the place in sand creating an “urban beach” - so lets make it a good’n.
